Error: Invalid Merchant ID and Remote Data Access in Sage 50

    Description

Why am I receiving "Invalid Merchant ID" and "Remote Data Access Error" messages in Sage 50?

    Resolution

For the usual causes of "Remote Data Access Error", please see What "Remote Data Access Error" means and how do I fix it?. The following steps are advised only if you are receiving an Invalid Merchant ID error in conjunction with the Remote Data Access error. This typically suggests a damaged KMSKeys.XML file.

Note: You will need to manipulate program files; therefore, we strongly suggest seeking assistance from your IT department or Sage 50 Technical Support. You may also need Administrator access on your computer.

    1. Restore a Sage 50 company backup from before the first occurrence of the error. Restore to a new company, so that your existing data is not overwritten.
    2. Open the restored company and try to reproduce the error by viewing a stored credit card number.
    3. Assuming it works normally, copy the KMSKeys.XML file from the restoration and use it to replace the corrupted file in the main company's database.
